Our client, an SME, is one of the UK's leading suppliers of Beauty and Medical products. They require an Assistant Accountant to commence in early January 2020 on the retirement of the present incumbent. This position reports to the Finance Director. You would be supervising two part-time staff. The position is currently part-time 3 days a week but may grow.


To assist senior management by taking charge of and performing the accounting, budgeting, credit control, payroll and internal control duties and manage the general administration processes of the Company's operations. Produce monthly profit and loss reports with comparison to budget - explain variances and discuss with Managing Director.

Recording all transactions on SAP Business One on a timely basis
Ensuring all invoices, payments and other transactions are approved in accordance the Company's procedures.
Supervise hands-on banking and bookkeeping, including web based sales reconciliation work.
Recommend improvements to the Company's systems where appropriate.
Manage recording / posting of monthly repeat costs and payments 
Manage recording of directors' and managers' company credit cards and post payments.
Record weekly and monthly payroll costs.
Maintain the Company's Asset Register.
Manage accruals, prepayments, depreciation and amortisation schedules.
Perform regular (at least monthly) bank reconciliations.
Produce purchase ledger payment lists for approval and signature by the Managing Director
Manage the recording of stocks, supervise and advise on stocktakes and item valuations.
Prepare VAT reports and submit in a timely manner to HMRC using MTD process.
Advise the Managing Director to ensure PAYE and NI and all other taxes are paid to HMRC on time.
Provide the Company's independent accountant with schedules necessary for the preparation of the statutory accounts.
Assist the Managing Director in the preparation of the budget producing schedules and giving advice where required.
Perform weekly checks of the debtors' ledger using the Aged Report 
Assist with Payroll and post payroll costs.
Work with the Managing Director in establishing sound internal processes and controls. 
Formalise procedures and maintain internal control manual for use by staff.

Part/ Qualified ACA, ACCA, CIMA or AAT 

2+ years of overall combined accounting and financial experience as an Assistant Accountant or similar.
Thorough knowledge of accounting procedures and principles
Experience with creating financial statements
Experience with SAP Business One and General Ledger functions and the month-end, year-end close process.
Excellent accounting software and administration skills
Strong interpersonal skills, communication and presentation skills
Able to manage, guide and lead employees to ensure appropriate financial processes are being used
A solid understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles
Ability to work in a team environment
