Our client is looking for a Financial Controller (newly created position) for their £15-20m turnover business near Bolton. This is a family run business and this will be their first FC as all previous senior level accounting was handled by external accountants.

This is a newly created position in the company and the FC will report to the Operations Director. The role will require you to provide the operational staff with the appropriate analysis to drive the profitability and growth of the business in line with the stated objectives. The right candidate will join the management team and will be expected to play a major role in decision making, as well as manage a small accounts department.

Monthly accounts

  • Create accurate, relevant, and timely monthly MI pack for monthly management meeting
  • Proactively set and analyse the business’ key metrics, reporting data to relevant departments & board.
  • Proactively move the business towards and implement the most appropriate MI systems available. 
Year End 

  • Work with external accountants to ensure fully compliant and accurate accounts are filed with Companies House no later than March 31st following YE. 
Cash Management

  • Create monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Create a 13 week cash flow projection. Manage cash in and out of the business including decisions about who to pay in times of tight cash and set & monitor credit limits. 
  • Create annual cash flow projection to support the budgeting process.


  • Primary driving force to collect and collate all relevant data from each department to create a credible annual budget & once approved by the board, report monthly on variances, providing all relevant data to each department in order that each department understand the commercial drivers and the action needed to achieve optimum performance. 

  • Assess the market and propose commercial insurance for the Company. - Manage any insurance claims.


  • Oversee the accurate and timely payment of staff and NI to HMRC.
  • Collate local rates of pay in order to recommend pay reviews in a timely fashion 
Access to Finance 

  • Proactively recommend appropriate finance solutions to support business

  • Qualified Accountant is preferred (CIMA / ACCA/ ACA)
  • Experience in a similar position is required
