Business Description:

Our client is a 25-year-old not-for-profit financial co-operative, owned and controlled by its members and regulated by the FCA and the PRA.  They offer an easy way to save and a flexible way to borrow direct from the members salary (over 12,000 members and having lent over £100million to date.)

They are looking for new Board Members with a Finance Background to join them on a volunteer basis. 
The role is for approx. 6-10 hours per month.
Role Description:

Credit Unions are run by a volunteer Board of Directors who represent, and report to the wider membership. The Board is responsible for setting the strategic aims and objectives of the co-operative and ensuring that proper governance arrangements are in place.  Treasury & Finance Committee is constituted by the Board of Directors with the purpose of assisting the Board in meeting its responsibilities for the integrity of the Credit Union's financial reporting including the effectiveness of the internal control and for monitoring the effectiveness and objectivity of external auditors.

They are looking for candidates from a Finance Background who ideally has experience of working in similar roles / environments. One of the roles available is that of Treasurer so senior level experience in accountancy or as a treasurer would be very useful. The role will be based in Harlington but there is also the opportunity to join some meetings remotely.

Skills Required:
  • Expenses for Board related activities will be paid
  • Strategy Day / Weekend which include Board development sessions
  • Possibility of attending Credit Union conferences in the UK and overseas 
  • To improve and broaden their knowledge, expertise, Board Members engage in learning and development programmes e.g. online director focused modules provided by Association of British Credit Union's training academy, face to face workshops by relevant experts in the field
