Our client, a leading UK-wide accountancy practice backed by private equity with a turnover exceeding £20 million, is seeking an exceptional Group Tax Director to lead its tax function and play a pivotal role in shaping the firm’s future growth.

This is a critical, high-profile appointment – the successful candidate will be the firm’s Group Tax leader, responsible for overseeing all areas of tax strategy, governance, and compliance across the group.

The role requires a broad, senior-level understanding of tax, including corporate and personal taxation, structuring, and strategic advisory. This position offers the chance to shape the tax strategy of a dynamic, expanding firm while maintaining strong client engagement. The successful candidate will manage key client relationships, deliver expert tax advice across a range of sectors, and guide the firm’s overall tax direction in partnership with senior leadership.

This role offers good flexibility and can be based in one of the firms offices in London, Surrey, Kent or Hampshire with hybrid working.

  • Client Leadership: Provide high-level tax advice and planning services to a diverse portfolio of SME and corporate clients.
  • Strategic Direction: Develop and lead the group’s tax strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and regulatory standards.
  • Compliance & Advisory: Oversee corporate and personal tax compliance, while driving growth in advisory and structuring work.
  • Team Development: Lead and mentor the tax team, promoting collaboration, technical excellence, and a client-first culture.
  • Business Growth: Support the firm’s expansion by identifying opportunities to enhance and broaden its tax service offering.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with partners, audit, and accounting teams to deliver joined-up client solutions and maintain the highest standards of service.


  • ACA, ACCA, or CTA qualified (or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in practice, with a strong background in corporate and personal tax.
  • Proven track record in client relationship management and high-level tax advisory.
  • Experienced leader with the ability to develop teams and influence at senior level.
  • Strong technical knowledge with a commercial and strategic outlook.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, forward-thinking approach.
